Our Work
Our faculty research and scholarship addresses the world’s most pressing challenges today. With grant support we are expanding our innovative research portfolios to assess the health and other impacts of the expanded Global Gag Rule in Nepal, Kenya, and Madagascar. The Adverting Maternal Death and Disability (AMDD) Program is building on their longstanding work measuring disrespect and abuse in maternity care globally to document the disturbing rates of and disparities in maternal mortality in the U.S. Equally notable, our groundbreaking research measuring exposure-related structural changes to children’s brains due to toxic insecticide is challenging the EPA’s rollback of environmental protections.
In Forced Migration, we are exploring approaches to improve the effectiveness of humanitarian strategies on health, protection and human rights. We have conducted research on how to prevent gender-based and sexual violence in conflict zones, refugee camps, and other humanitarian settings. The implications of our research have been substantial: many international aid agencies are now integrating resources to prevent gender-based violence in their services.
We are also excited about the Program on Global Health Justice and Governance, a school-wide program to solve complex public health challenges in the areas of gender and environmental justice. The program will launch in the Fall.
