Letter from the Editor
Amy Osorio, MPH ‘06
Happy Spring 2018 everyone! Welcome to our 5th issue of E-Mailman! Last year, we sent out a survey asking for alumni thoughts about and input into on our newsletter. We were delighted to learn that many of you find it informative, but we are driven and committed to continue to making changes based on your input. Specifically, we are striving to incorporate more topics that you identified as important and to highlight a broader group of alumni. As you read through our newsletter, you will see some added features such as the Career Corner and Mailman Trivia. We are also incorporating opinion pieces on hot topics written by alumni volunteers including one highlighting the #MeToo movement as a public health issue and another about opportunities for empowering women through the Columbia University community at the women’s conference, “She Opened the Door.” The Alumni Board also thanks retiring Mailman Alumni Board members for their commitment to the Mailman School through volunteer service on the Board.
In addition, the newsletter committee wants more information about what our alumni are doing both nationally and internationally in the public health arena. Please share your experiences with us. We would love to highlight them in our newsletter, and I ask that you let us know by emailing Kim Peters at kp2697@columbia.edu. We look forward to hearing from you!

In 2008, reciting the Public Health Oath became a Mailman School rite of passage for both entering and graduating students. As a 2005 graduate, I was sad to have missed reciting the Oath but was inspired to learn it belatedly. read more
