July 17, 2024

Columbia Mailman School leaders welcomed the addition of four members to its Board of Advisors. Dvora Joseph Davey, MPH ’03; Abigail Levy; Stacey Matlen; and Jennifer Gates Nassar, MPH ’23, began their four-year terms earlier this year.

“I am thrilled to welcome Dvora, Abby, Stacey, and Jenn as colleagues on the Columbia Mailman Board of Advisors,” said Dina Dublon, Board chair. “Each has a commitment to Columbia Mailman’s mission, vision, and values that will prove indispensable as we move forward into our second century of public health impact.”

Dvora Joseph Davey is an infectious disease epidemiologist who has led research and programs to improve HIV and sexually transmitted infection prevention and treatment in Sub-Saharan Africa for more than 20 years. She is an associate professor of infectious diseases and epidemiology at the University of California, Los Angeles, and an honorary associate professor in the division of epidemiology and biostatistics at the School of Public Health at the University of Cape Town. Joseph Davey earned her MPH from Columbia Mailman in 2003 and holds a PhD from the University of California Los Angeles.

Abigail Levy is managing partner and co-founder of Primetime Partners, an early-stage venture capital fund focused on improving the quality of life for older adults. Levy has spent her career helping businesses and consumer brands grow, most notably in the wellness sector. Prior to Primetime Partners, she was a senior executive at SoulCycle.

Stacey Matlen is senior vice president of innovation at the Partnership for NYC, where she partners with New York governmental agencies across the transit, water, and built environment sectors to identify organizational pain points and recruit innovative technology solutions to solve their pressing challenges. Previously, she led multiple initiatives with the City of Detroit’s Office of Mobility Innovation and founded an award-winning startup that increased healthy food access for low-income residents. Matlen holds an MPH from the University of Michigan.

Jennifer Gates Nassar, a Seattle native, began her medical journey at Stanford University with a degree in human biology, specializing in child and adolescent development. She graduated from Columbia Mailman with an MPH in 2023 and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai with an MD in 2024, and is currently a pediatric resident.

“Thank you to Dvora, Abigal, Stacey, and Jennifer for bringing their partnership and passion for public health to the Columbia Mailman Board of Advisors,” said Dean Linda P. Fried. “Their contributions to our Board will help Columbia Mailman remain a leader as we work to reimagine the possibilities of 21st century public health education, research, and service.”

As Advisors, Joseph Davey, Levy, Matlen, and Gates join a body of nearly thirty professionals with a wide range of experience across the business, government, media, and nonprofit sectors. Advisors volunteer their time and expertise to provide Columbia Mailman with external perspective that is vital for a school of public health with local, national, and global reach. They serve as advocates for the School, assist in acquiring the resources needed to execute its work and mission, and provide ongoing counsel to its leadership team.
