SafeNights App

• Allow location permissions

  • Location services for your phone will need to be enabled on your phone during the two weeks of data collection. To turn on location services, open your phone’s Settings app, scroll down to Location, and make sure that Use Location is turned on. For more information about using location services, please refer to this article: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/3467281?hl=en.

  • For the app to work you must allow precise location permissions for the SafeNights app. Location permissions for the app will need to be set to “Allow all the time.”

  • To check if location permissions are allowed for the SafeNights app, open your phone’s Settings app, and scroll down to Location. Tap on App Permission. Find the SafeNights app on the list of apps and open it. Make sure that “Allow all the time” is selected. If it is not, make sure to select the “Allow all the time” option.

• Don't close the app

  • Please do not close the app during the two weeks of data collection – closing an app involves swiping up on your screen and then swiping up on the app.

  • Closing the app will prevent it from collecting study data. If you accidentally close it, please open it back up by navigating to your app drawer and tapping the SafeNights app icon.

• Don't delete the app

  • During the two weeks of data collection, please do not delete the app from your phone. If the app is not installed on your phone, it won’t be able to collect data for the study.

  • Once you have filled out the third survey, which is the last one for the study, data collection and your participation in the study will be over. At that point it is okay to delete the app from your phone.

• Keep your phone turned on

  • Turning off your phone will stop data collection, so it’s important to keep it turned on.

  • If you turn your phone off or need to restart it, please make sure to reopen the app after turning it back on.

  • To open the app, navigate to your app drawer and tap the SafeNights app icon.
