Overview
Dr. Stephanie Grilo (she/her/hers) is an Associate Professor in the Heilbrunn Department of Population and Family Health at the Mailman School of Public Health. Dr. Grilo is a dedicated social scientist, she brings a community-centered and resilience-based approach to her research and teaching portfolio. She addresses critical issues in women’s health such as racial disparities in maternal mortality and morbidity and experiences of identity formation and discrimination in healthcare settings, resulting in more equitable service delivery. Dr. Grilo is an expert in qualitative methods and is passionate about giving voice to marginalized communities. In the projects that she leads, she prioritizes building community trust and fostering resilience, ensuring impactful, culturally-responsive solutions for vulnerable populations both domestically and globally.? Dr. Grilo co-teaches Qualitative Methods in the Core Curriculum as well as in Population and Family Health. Dr. Grilo is also the co-founder of MOSAIC (Mentoring of Students and Igniting Community) a faculty and student mentorship community for first generation and students of color in the Department.
