Below are FAQs regarding payment, cancellations, certificates of completion, scholarships and discounts for the SHARP Program. If you have additional questions, navigate to the specific training's page and email the email address located there for more assistance.

 

Can I pay by invoice or wire transfer?

Yes, please go to the specific training course page you would like to register for, scroll down to under the registration fee table to where it says "Invoice Payment" and click the link to submit the form to receive registration and payment instructions.

I would like to use Columbia department or grant funds to pay for registration. How can I transfer funds internally?

To pay by internal transfer through ARC, go to the specific training course page you would like to register for, scroll down to under the registration fee table to where it says "Columbia Discount" and click the link to submit the form to receive registration and payment instructions.

I need a receipt to get reimbursed for registration fees. How do I get a receipt?

Once you register for a training, you will automatically receive an email confirmation receipt (to the email you registered with) showing line item registration category, cost, and payment method to be used as your receipt. If you misplace this email, please go to the specific training course page you are registered for, and email the email address listed on that page for a copy.

I registered and paid for a training, but now need to cancel my seat. Can I receive a refund of my registration fee?

Please check the specific training's page you registered for regarding the cancellation policy.

For most trainings, cancellation notices must be received via email at least 30 days prior to the workshop start date in order to receive a full refund, minus a $75 administrative fee. Cancellation notices received via email 14-29 days prior to the workshop will receive a 75% refund, minus a $75 administrative fee. Please email your cancellation notice to sharp_program@cumc.columbia.edu. Due to workshop capacity and preparation, we regret that we are unable to refund registration fees for cancellations <14 days prior to the training.

If you are unable to attend the training, we encourage you to send a substitute within the same registration category. Please inform us of the substitute via email at least one week prior to the training to include them on attendee communications, updated registration forms, and materials. Should the substitute fall within a different registration category your credit card will be credited/charged respectively. Please email substitute inquiries to sharp_program@cumc.columbia.edu.

Do I receive a certificate of completion?

Yes, all attendees that successfully complete a training have the opportunity to receive a certificate of completion by email after the training.

Does the SHARP Program offer discounts?

Yes. All trainings offer an early-bird discount registration rate, as well as a 10% discount for active Columbia employees. Check the registration fee table on the webpage for the training you would like to attend for specific details.

Are SHARP trainings eligible for Columbia tuition exemption?

No. Unfortunately, SHARP trainings are ineligible for Columbia's tuition exemption program, as these trainings are not credit-bearing.

Does the SHARP Program offer scholarships?

Yes. The summer training program has a limited number of professional development scholarship awards available for candidates (at any domestic or international institution) to cover 50% of the participant registration fees.

Can students apply for scholarships?

Unfortunately, students (undergrad and graduate) are ineligible for SHARP Scholarships. Please review full eligibility details on the scholarship page.

Does SHARP have any mentorship opportunities?

Currently, SHARP does not have any mentorship opportunities, but check out Career MODE, an 11-month hybrid mentorship and training program in omics and data science. This program partners closely with the SHARP Program to provide supplemental training in crucial professional research skills. Career MODE trainees are expected to participate 8-11 hours per month.
