Research Administration

As a unit of both SPA and the Mailman School, the office manages all aspects of sponsored projects administration that do not involve financial accounting.  We work closely with both the School’s departments and centers and central university offices including Research Compliance and Sponsored Projects Finance to ensure that the terms of each award are fulfilled.The mission of the Mailman School of Public Health Research Administration (RA) is to provide top quality and effective administrative support to investigators in their pursuit of research, service and other scholarly activities while ensuring compliance with federal, University, and private sponsor regulations, terms and conditions.

This unit is responsible for a wide range of services including the following:

  • Review and submission of sponsored research proposals
  • Award negotiation and acceptance
  • Establishing financial accounts
  • Sponsor communication during the life cycle of the award
  • Award close-out
  • Sponsored project data collection and reporting
  • Grants education including pre and post award training
  • Identification of possible sources of funding for research, training and service activities
  • Managing those aspects of post award administration that do not involve financial accounting.
  • Assist departments in ensuring that the terms of the awards are fulfilled

The office also maintains a library of extensive electronic resources including regularly-updated materials on external agencies. In addition, SPA published a Sponsored Projects Handbook which is available both electronically and in printed form.

Primary responsibility for assisting Mailman School administrators and investigators is assigned to specific members of the SPA staff.
