EDUCATION

Education is the core mission of a university. We leverage Columbia University’s diverse faculty to provide high-quality, customized educational and training programs to give participating staff new skills.

1. Core Training and Academic Collaboration

a. Conduct a semi-annual two-day workshop to introduce epidemiology and biostatistics to industry partner staff.

b. Provide bi-monthly, two-hour didactic learning forums on topics of relevance (e.g., statistics, epidemiology, study design, databases, pharmacogenomics, substantive clinical and epidemiologic topics).

c. Conduct and/or participate in bi-monthly journal clubs by reviewing and discussing relevant articles to critically appraise content and enhance understanding of study design and statistical principles.

d. Provide special training and enrichment programs in health equity and justice relevant to race/ethnicity and minority representation within biomedical research.

e. Organize and conduct epidemiology/pharmacoepidemiology workshops on substantive topics (e.g., renal disease).

2. Extended Educational Opportunities for Industry Partner Employees

a. Arrange for industry partner staff to attend courses available through Columbia’s Epi Summer program.

b. Arrange for industry partner staff to give seminars at Columbia’s Department of Epidemiology on pharmacovigilance and other topics.

c. Provide speakers on a quarterly basis for employee wellness programs on desired topics (e.g., healthy eating, healthy aging).

d. Arrange and coordinate a bi-annual leadership and management program in partnership with the Columbia Business School
