Application Deadline: extended to May 15

Two ways to apply

WITH FINANCIAL SUPPORT FROM YOUR DEPARTMENT OR DIVISION

Applicants whose tuition and fees will be paid by their department or division must submit the standard application, consisting of:

  • The Mailman School of Public Health CSRI Application*†;
  • The CSRI 2024 Application Supplement through which candidates are asked to provide a few additional pieces of information and upload the supporting materials listed below:
    • Curriculum vitae;
    • A personal statement of no more than 500 words, describing research interests, career goals, and reasons for applying to the program;
  • The CSRI 2024 Recommendation Form with an attached letter from two individuals who can comment knowledgeably on the candidate's research potential. Each reference should complete their own recommendation form and upload a letter on the candidate's behalf.
    • The first reference must come from the candidate's department chair or division chief, and must indicate that the department/division will assume financial costs for the candidate's participation in the program. Assurance that the candidate will be given time off (no clinical or work duties) for the duration of the program must also be included.
Transcripts are not required for those who are sponsored by their department/division. Please ignore the default message that your MSPH CSRI application is not complete without transcripts.
 If you have already submitted an application for an MSPH degree program (e.g. the POR or CRM degree programs in Biostatistics) through SOPHAS, you may write to csri@columbia.edu and give CSRI explicit permission to review your SOPHAS application in place of the MSPH Application for CSRI 2024. However, the CSRI 2024 Application Supplement and CSRI 2024 Recommendation Forms are still required.

SELF-SUPPORTED

Applicants who assume responsibility for their own tuition and fees must submit a standard application, consisting of:

  • The Mailman School of Public Health CSRI Application;
  • Transcripts from all previous undergraduate and graduate training programs;
  • The CSRI 2024 Application Supplement through which candidates are asked to provide a few additional pieces of information and upload the supporting materials listed below:
    • Curriculum vitae;
    • A personal statement of no more than 500 words, describing research interests, career goals, and reasons for applying to the program;
  • The CSRI 2024 Recommendation Form with an attached letter from two individuals who can comment knowledgeably on the candidate's research potential. Each reference should complete his/her own recommendation form and upload a letter on the candidate's behalf.
    • The first reference must come from the candidate's department chair, division chief, or immediate supervisor and must indicate that the candidate will be given time off (no clinical or work duties) for the duration of the program.

Scholarships

We are pleased to offer scholarship awards for the CSRI 2024 program. Awards are made on the basis of merit and potential to impact diversity and inclusion of individuals who have been historically underrepresented in CSRI and/or the research workforce of an applicant's (sub)specialty. Awards cover $3,000 to $10,000 of the cost of tuition for CSRI.

Eligibility

We invite applications from early-career investigators: post-doctoral fellows/researchers and junior faculty. Candidates from any institution are welcome to apply and we encourage applications from underrepresented groups, including but not limited to racial and ethnic minorities, sexual and gender minorities, and individuals with disabilities.

Applying for a Scholarship

In addition to completing all required components of the standard application to CSRI 2024, applicants who would like to be considered for a scholarship must complete the CSRI 2024 Scholarship Application form which includes questions on:

  • demographics
  • other support
  • merit as defined by the applicant's greatest strengths and/or achievements
  • impact on increasing diversity and inclusion in CSRI and/or the research workforce of the applicant's specialty or sub-specialty

Applicants who have already submitted their application to CSRI 2024 must also submit the CSRI 2024 Scholarship Application form to be considered for an award. The deadline to apply to the CSRI 2024 program and the scholarship is May 15.
