Academic Support Program
The Office of Education, through a collaboration between the Office of Student Affairs and the Office of Educational Initiatives, launched an MPH academic support program for fall 2021. Utilizing MPH Core assessments to identify students who could benefit from additional academic guidance, beyond the robust support offered by our talented MPH Core TAs. Eligible students were invited to meet with Academic Specialists for targeted instruction and coaching, in the areas of quantitative and/or writing skills. During the spring semester, we continue to support eligible MPH students, through an online referral process. Now, in it's second pilot year, the Academic Support program continues to supplemental existing academic resources for our new students.
Our Academic Specialists
Writing Support Specialists help students develop their capacity to express themselves effectively in organized, well-structured written compositions. Primarily they accomplish this by conducting individual consultations, working closely with students to identify growth opportunities and develop goals. In these sessions, consultants help writers improve projects from various units in the MPH Core at any stage of the writing process. This help is offered with an eye toward the writer’s long-term growth.
Quantitative Reasoning Support Specialists guide students through computational and mathematical processes. They assist with MPH Core homework, problem-solving, and test preparation. Specialists tutor MPH students individually to review principles and mathematical processes, solve problems, and review material in preparation for quizzes and tests. Additionally, they support the development of study skills and provide counsel on math and test anxiety, assisting students in developing good learning strategies and habits.
